  1. It would be nice to see an easy way to build/deploy Firebase Functions in IDX. The work you've done for firebase hosting is fantastic. It would be nice to be able to create and deploy functions the same way.

  3. Currently we can have URLs that forward to localhost. But these use a redirect (30x). Some environments don't accept a location redirect. For example, we are developing Google Workspace Add-ons and it would be a great usecase for it, but we need a tool like ngrok to connect add-ons to our endpoints, since they need a 200 response.

  4. Nix is new to lots of folks - and it's a bit hard to know where to start.

Include some sample templates, or a master template with a bunch of packages (commented out) that the user can start with.

  7. I think it would be so much better if we can see who is online in the project, where is their cursor, and what are their working in. Like in google docs. So we can collaborating making a project simulteneously. No need to worry about the commit and conflict.

  11. The Firebase CLI creates the rules files for Firestore and Storage in the root of the project directory. It would be nice to have a button to enable/connect the project to firestore, and manage the rules in the project in a similar way for each service respectively.

  12. For me, it is crucial that I run a project with a specific version of Go for example. So it would be great if I could set the version of the Nix package in dev.nix. Perhaps right next to the packages that I have to and need to decal anyway.

  13. <<Current State>>

Currently, dependency injection in IDX requires developers to explicitly import dependent files. This can lead to a significant amount of boilerplate code, especially in projects with numerous dependencies. Additionally, this manual approach can make it difficult to track and manage dependencies, especially as projects grow in size and complexity.

    << Solution >>

Automating dependency injection in IDX can involve creating a mechanism that automatically identifies and resolves dependencies based on code annotations or configuration files. This would eliminate the need for developers to explicitly import dependent files by reducing boilerplate code and improving code maintainability.

  16. Cypress is a popular UI automation testing tool for web, and I would like to run it within an IDX project!

This is the error I get when trying to run a Cypress test:

"Your system is missing the dependency: Xvfb"

  17. Firebase has device streaming which is available in Android Studio. This allows developers to connect to different emulators running on Firebase servers. Having this option in IDX will be a useful tool and we can get access to different emulators such as foldables and more recent Android versions for testing our Flutter apps.

  19. I suggest the creation of a Chrome plugin that creates a "launch button" in a github that then opens the repo in IDX development environment.
